“Be Still, Trust, & Jump The Waves”
” The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still” -Exodus 14:14 (NIV)
The famous phrase used by Moses right before God told him to tell the Israelites to move on. God asked Moses to stretch his hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites could go through the sea on the dry ground. The Lord proclaimed that he would receive the glory through Pharaoh and his Army as the hearts of the Egyptians were hardened. On this day the Lord saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and his great power was displayed! This caused the people to fear the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.( Exodus 14:15-29)
It’s so easy to get caught up in the BIG tasks ahead of us that we sometimes can make those TASKS look bigger than our GOD. God is bigger than any of our circumstances, tasks, or mountains. He will carry us over where we need to go, whether it be the “promised land” ,or right where he wants us! We need to just trust and let God fight our daily battles for us.
I was just reading chapter 6 entitled “Wave Jumper” in “Sun Stand Still” ,by my Pastor, Steven Furtick @ Elevation, and it describes what I have been going through so well! I have been struggling with trusting God & the amount of tasks ahead of me seeming so BIG.
In this Chapter, Pastor Steven talks about his son Elijah going into the deeper water to jump waves with his Dad. It takes a little convincing from his Father but after hesitating Elijah agrees. They get to a place where the water hits their chest and Elijah almost backs out. Just before the wave hits Elijah makes sure that Pastor Steven is right behind him. Just as the wave hits he lifts him up high in the air so that the wave doesn’t spray in his face or ears. Then Elijah gets excited and tells his Dad ” I’m the wave jumper! Let’s jump another wave, Daddy!”
What Elijah didn’t realize is that he wasn’t the wave jumper. “Daddy” is the wave jumper. Elijah is just the hand holder while his Dad lifts him up high into the air. This is much like the way God works all the time in our life when we trust him with audacious faith. “As the big waves roll toward us, God promises to do the heavy lifting. He only requires that we have the faith to wade in as deep as he leads and keep reaching up to him”- Sun Stand Still ( Pastor Steven Furtick)
Although I am not over all of the waves I know that my Father is holding my hand through this whole process & that I can dare to continue to step in faith because he will be right there to lift me up when I need it. The waves may come crashing hard and thrash me around a bit, but none of the waves will be too big for God to lift me out and up. If I continue to walk by his side he will carry me through this process! Jesus is right there holding my hand!
I think everyone can relate to this in that we all face “waves”. Some more GIANT than others. When we see them coming, it can look overwhelming. If we just wait and “jump” when God says to jump, we will get over one wave, then another, and another! Until the waves are a constant part of our life. Then we start getting in a rhythm as each wave gets easier to jump!
“God will meet and supply our every need according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).”
“Everthing is possible for him who believes”- Mark 9:23
