I’m very late with this, but here are 50 things about me for my September Route 1 squad! 🙂
- My parents and family are from Korea, but I was born and raised in the States.
- I have one older sister, and our age gap is 11 years.
- I’m pretty short- I think I’m around 5’2”, maybe a fraction of an inch taller. But I’m okay with it!
- I kind of grew up in the church, but I didn’t fully pursue God until college.
- I went to college at Duke, and I’m convinced that the Lord brought me there not for academic excellence, but to meet Him and to develop amazing, genuine relationships.
- I was very involved with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in college. Through IVCF I discovered God, friends, and the unique importance of college ministry.
- I majored in psychology.
- English is my first language. I’m fairly fluent in Korean and conversant in Spanish, but my Spanish is quite rusty right now.
- I like to live simply. Not high maintenance.
- I like to be organized and neat, but any outward mess tends to reflect how tired and busy I am, or how crazy things are during that period of time.
- I’m an introvert. I definitely need my space to rest and process things.
- I don’t really like large crowds of people (unless we’re worshiping together!).
- I am quite emotional. While I can usually be levelheaded, my strong emotions can be triggered randomly.
- I think I’m fairly quick to move on from situations and relationships.
- I love talking about personalities and analyzing other people and myself.
- Speaking of which… I am an INFJ (Myers-Briggs personality type).
- I’ve always had low self-esteem and I often struggle with some degree of self-hatred.
- I have trouble identifying my passions and gifts.
- I really value empathy and compassion.
- I wish I didn’t care so much about what others think or say, but unfortunately I am a people-pleaser.
- I love music! Growing up, I played the piano, flute, and piccolo. Band, wind ensemble, orchestra, chamber group all the time!
- In college I sang in an all-female Christian a cappella group, where I also learned very basic beatboxing.
- I only know a few chords on the guitar, but I really want to learn more.
- I want to learn how to dance more! I never danced growing up, but in college I took social dance and Latin dance, so I learned the basics of salsa, tango, waltz, bachata, rumba, swing, shag, etc. So much fun!
- The main sport of my childhood was Tae Kwon Do (martial arts), but I stopped due to time constraints after the beginning of high school.
- I really enjoy reading, but I’m sad that I haven’t read many books outside of school for the past several years.
- I feel naked without a watch. And I wear mine on my right wrist although I’m right-handed!
- The countries outside the States that I’ve been to: Canada (barely, just Niagara), Korea, Honduras.
- I like making connections, and I love analogies.
- Poetry is cool!
- I secretly want to learn how to act. Zero experience, but I think it would be fun, challenging, and intellectually stimulating for sure.
- I’m not naturally inclined to seek the thrill of adventure, but I try to be open to trying new things. (The Race is bound to make me more adventurous!)
- I’m pretty awful at memorizing facts and things, especially if it’s rote memorization of stuff that seems irrelevant to my tasks or interests. I think I have a selective memory, too.
- I’m striving to embrace my uniqueness and the way God created me. Kind of a struggle.
- I love the arts. I’m a firm believer in the importance and impact of arts education, so I find it sad that the arts are often the first thing to go with budget cuts.
- I like watching musicals and shows of any sort.
- I recently purchased a new camera for the Race (a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera), and I’ve always wanted to learn photography. Just starting to learn now!
- Before watching documentaries, I thought they would just be boring. But they’re fascinating and enlightening!
- I love listening to people’s stories and learning about cultures.
- I tend to avoid conflict and confrontation.
- I like children.
- I love the beach and wish I were closer to one.
- I’m not a big meat-eater. Though I’m not a vegetarian, I think I could be one. And if I do ever end up becoming one, it’ll be after the Race (can’t afford to have food restrictions!).
- I love fruit- I don’t think I can live without it! Other yummy stuff: noodles, sweet potato, hummus, granola, chocolate, almonds, rice cake, soy milk, Korean food in general. Oh, and I absolutely love spicy food!
- I really don’t like public speaking, and I generally have trouble articulating myself verbally. Definitely not eloquent.
- I like being barefoot, even when it’s cold and I know that if my feet are cold, my body will also be cold.
- I much prefer warm weather to cold, and I dislike humidity.
- Laughter is the best remedy! I love people who can make me laugh. Occasionally, I have laughing fits; maybe you guys will witness a few on the Race.
- I like spelling and grammar.
- Sorry I’m so long-winded! This came out to be longer than expected…
