I just wrote an entire blog about bananas. After reading it out loud to my fellow squad leader, I realized that you honestly don’t really care about how many bananas I have eaten and maybe you would like to know about real life…

You see, I sit here trying to come up with what you might like to read about and I have come to realize that the oddities that happen everyday have become normal.

I just washed my clothes in a bucket of rain water… no big deal. At least there was water to wash them in.

This morning I took a shower in murky discolored pond water…I mean, I wouldn’t even jump in a lake this color, BUT better than being sweaty all day.

For breakfast, 6 of us piled in the back of a “tuktuk bus” if you will (basically a moped attached to an evolved wagon) that broke down twice on the way to the market.  Good thing there are gasoline stands on the side of the road where you can buy a coke bottle filled with petrol.

My coffee was served in a bag with ice, I paid 3000 rael for some fried bananas, coffee and a baguette which is the equivalent of 75 cents.

Its really quite impressive how well the Lord takes care of us. We have climbed on buses usually not realllly knowing where to get off or what awaits us on the other end. Its a plus if we know where we are going to sleep that night, but we always have our tents if all else fails. We have slept on sleeping pads on the floor, under bug nets, on bunk beds, and (my personal favorite) in a hostel with sheets covered in martini glasses, flowers and phrases like “Lets Party!”

It sounds so exciting, but then there are those days where all you do is sit around coming up with blogs about bananas.

The fact is, this is real life… not everyday is filled with an incredible revelation OR awkward moments. You have to choose in. You have to choose to be content and not count down the days OR talk about how fast it is all going. 8 months from now we are going to wake up back home and we are STILL going to have to choose to live in the moment and choose to be content no matter what job (or lack of) we are working.

Conclusion? There is none… but check out my blog about bananas 🙂
