The Boys
To be led by the spirit is to take yourself out of the equation, to become a supernatural vessel for the spirit to pour out onto His most beloved.
It was the first day of the moth of September when we arrived to Los Pinos, Honduras. Up a rugged road full of rocks and dirt we came to a stop when Pastor Yovonnie and Fabio our soon to be body guard announced that we were home. A small rusted Gate met us as we unloaded our giant packs from the top of the SUV. I noticed pad locks circled the bars of the gate to hold it shut and weeds grew up to reach our knees as we waited patiently for Fabio to unlock each lock. Walking into what we like to call the “compound” was an experience I will never forget.
Because it was mid day, the sun had already begin to set witch meant most of the house and street lights were on in all of the city. Los Pinos is currently one of two neighborhoods that is considered highly dangerous and poverty stricken. Alot of Gang related activity take place only streets away from where I was. However, there was a peace on the compound that I hardly understood. As the sun set and darkness fell over the city, the lights began to shine so bright, almost as if they were stars in the night sky. At that moment I knew that God was with us, And that He had a pan for Los Pinos. A plan that far exceeded my expectations.
Of all of the ministry opportunities I have had on the race, working with gangs was the last on my mind. Not because of fear, but because of passion. I didn’t think I could relate with young men who fought to the death for things like territory. I cant relate at all…
As Pastor Yovonny sheared with us his heart for these young men, God began to stur something im my heart that I still cant even describe. These boys just want to belong somewhere. They want someone to want them. Boy, have I hear those words come to light from my own two lips.
I just want to belong
As time went on we began to build relationships with this guys by helping run a soccer tournament they all willingly played in. We shared skits and shared the word as well as testimonies of how amazing our God is. We thought them valuable life lessons even shared snacks and soda with them. By the end of the month they were whistling to a different tune. They all in one way or another received the main idea of the teachings from that month witch was that they are adored by the King.
Statistics say all these men should grow up to be gang bangers, thieves or killers
But I say these men will defy the statistics of what they SHOULD be; and BECOME who they were created to be.
VALLOR MEN AFTER GODS OWN HEART.
So many other things made Honduras incredible, but here is a small glimpse into my Journey through life with Christ. I hope you Enjoyed!
