When I first thought about going on the World Race I was ecstatic. The thought of being able to travel and be a part of various cultures sounded really intriguing to me. After the honeymoon stage was over reality sunk in- it’s definitely not something to take lightly. The decision to be a part of the World Race isn’t just a small decision to make. I started realizing the size of the task I wanted to undertake and realizing that I didn’t have the right intensions, motivation and most importantly I never considered making sure it was a part of God’s plan. With that realization, I took a step back and started to focus more on my relationship with God and making sure I was focusing on him daily. The idea that the World Race was right for me started to click in to place during a bible study focused on service. One of main takeaway points was about how when He works through us the results are much more beneficial and last longer than when we do it on our own. Charles Stanley saye it well: “When we attempt to seve others without relying upon the Holy Spirti, we burn out, become discouraged at failures and persecutions, and often become lax in our serveice and weak in our desire to serve.” (Life
Principles Studies Series) As well, He equips those He chooses for specific avenues of service, shown in 1 Thesalonians 1:4-5.
1 Thessalonians 1:4-5
4 For we know, brothers and sistersb]”>[b] loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.
People ask me about what my plans after I graduate are and I can’t help but show my excitement when I tell them. Generally conversations are casual and low-key but when the subject of the WR comes up I can feel my face light up and people can tell that there is pure, authentic joy behind my decision. Through HIS power and by HIS will, I plan to share the wonderful life-saving news by serving those in need.
John 14:10
[Jesus said] “The Father who dwells in Me does the works.”
