Thursday evening, I’m hopping on a plane that will take off for Port-au-Prince, and upon landing there, I’ll have the honor of spending a week with some of the Haitian people.

I was in Southern California when the 8.0 earthquake ravaged the country of Haiti in January, and as my family there can attest, I was immediately trying to work out details of how I could get there, what I could do, and how I could offer some kind of salve or balm to the now orphans and widows. Glued to my computer, I was listening to updates on CNN feeds and watching everything unfold as soon as video clip reports were uploaded. Some of my dear friends had arrived at an orphanage in Port-au-Prince 4 days before the quake hit, and were there as the tragedies kept unfolding. Hearing the stories and seeing their brokenness struck a deep chord in me.

God’s got perfect timing, so while I wanted to be there within the first week, He had other plans (which have since become clear). Instead of being on the ground in Haiti, I had the opportunity to play a role in actually GETTING people there– mobilizing others to get into the country to help. One of the ways I did that was through video.

Here are a couple videos I made for Adventures In Missions after the earthquake:
Help Haiti.
You Can Go

My favorite quote is from Pastor Prophete, who says: “I see the world now as one family… People come from all over; they sweat with us, the sleep on the floor with us, they suffer with us, they cry with us. So that makes me glad to see that people are considering us people of God.”

I’m ready to just go be there, as one family.

One of the greatest joys of my life over the last 3 years has been inviting people to be a part of what God is doing overseas, extending invitations to partner and sow into the work. When friends, family and supporters invest (who can’t necessarily pack their bags, pick up and GO overseas right now), they’ve expressed to me that they so experience the joy of knowing how much of an intricate part they’ve been.

While I’m in Port-au-Prince, there are three primary areas that I’ll be working within. The first is one that I am especially passionate about– restoring dignity to Haiti by telling true stories of their resilience and strength, faith in God and their acknowledgment of Him as still good and redemptive in the midst of tragedy. They have a lot to teach us, so I’ll be gathering their stories. I’ll also be doing media work for the donor relations department of Adventures In Missions, showing where the money people have been donating has been directly going.

Secondly, I’ll be assisting STM, which stands for Short Term Missions– a program of AIM. Currently, they have teams on the ground, and I’ll get the chance to serve alongside of them; making meals, distributing food, cleaning up rubble, playing with kiddos, assisting the Haitian pastors, praying with people, etc.

Thirdly, I’ll be trying to make some face-to-face connections between AIM and the orphanage my friends were at when the earthquake hit in January. The World Race and AIM will be continuing to send teams into Haiti over the next few years, and the more contacts we can intentionally partner with, the better.

So this is my chance to invite you to join me once again, in the work I’ll get to put my hands to overseas. If you’ve got a tug for Haiti and it’s people still, consider joining me. I need your prayers, would love to know you’re thinking about us over the next week, and if you can invest financially, that’d be awesome, too. You can do that here: to give.

Thanks for taking the time to read, thanks for your love and support, and for being a part of life with me. Man, I’m so blown away by the grace to do this Kingdom thing with you all.

Much love,
Kim
