This week we had the chance to start our ministry. The women on our team are working hand in hand with the women in the rehabilitation program. We spend an hour with them on Mondays and Wednesdays where we lead them in a devotional and get to talk with them about Jesus and how he satisfies even when we think other things do. That they leave us empty and just seeking more. It has been really good to get to know them and hear their stories.
We then get to spend the rest of the morning and afternoon with them in the kitchen, helping to prepare the meals for the whole foundation and prep for the rest of the week’s meals. They get food donations from the market place and use every useable parts they can. What we would easily throw away in America, they use and I think it is beautiful. This is like our lives in Christ. We are the damaged, bruised, unwanted fruits. Most people would cast us away if they knew the imperfections we hold inside, but God uses us to share his goodness to the world.
Monday afternoon they placed this giant crate of onions in front of us and told us to cut the whole crate into small pieces to be used this week. it was intimidating to say the least, but the women in the program have such a great attitude about things that time passed so quickly. (I only cried twice and it was because of the onions) One woman in the program has the most amazing singing voice and she will randomly burst out in worship during the cooking or cleaning. She is such a beautiful example of when the bible tells us to worship God in everything we do. It was such a humbling experience to be able to step alongside these women and sing praises to the same God. It didn’t matter that our languages were different or that we couldn’t understand one another, because God understands us, and that’s what matters.
I am loving this ministry so far, and I look forward to being able to serve with and love on these women this month.
