We’ve
been in Australia for 2 days, and this is already shaping up to be an
interesting month. We flew into Brisbane, Australia where we stayed with a guy
named Mitch who was an awesome host and opened is house up to us and took care
of while we were there. The first day in Brisbane however, one of my teammates
had to go to the hospital with a kidney stone. They ended up keeping him
overnight and said he would be released the next morning. The next morning he sent us a message
that said they were now saying they might not release him until the following
day. This was not good news, A) because he was ready to get out of there, and
B) because our flight was supposed to leave the next morning at 6:30. So, our
group decided to come together and pray about it. At home most of the time when
we decide to pray about something specific like this as a group, it usually
lasts about 10 minutes. We ended up praying together, but silently for about 45
minutes. At that point, one of my other team members started praying out loud,
and while he was praying we got a call that our teammate was being released
from the hospital. Talk about God answering prayers quickly. We were all so
excited, so we had our own little praise and worship time.
So,
then the morning that we are flying out of Brisbane and to Cairnes, Australia I
started the morning off by setting the smoke detector off at 4:30 in the
morning. The sad thing is I was just trying to make toast. (Our host Mitch
loved us.) So at 5:00 we start to head off to the airport and the car won’t
start. We are supposed to be at the airport by 5:30 and we are a good 30
minutes away…. And it is raining. So we ended up push starting the car in the
rain, and Praise the Lord it worked!
Even
with all this, so far Australia has been amazing. We stayed about 20 minutes
outside the city, but there was wild life everywhere. Just sitting in Mitch’s
house, it sounded like we were in the middle of the rain forest. There were so
many different bird sounds and birds everywhere and geckos. Also, they way that
we have deer everywhere in GA, they have Kangaroos. We even ate Kanga Bangas,
which is basically a hot dog made out of kangaroo meat. Haven’t gotten to see a
Kangaroo yet though.
For the rest of the month our
internet will be very limited. We will be in Wujal Wujal, working with
aboriginals. Wujal Wujal is apparently in the rain forest and pretty secluded
so we will be getting to see all kinds of crocodiles, snakes, spiders, etc.
Just pray that none of them get too close. J
