We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to this mission trip. Here is my story…
About a year ago, I really felt like the Lord wanted me to go on a mission trip for spring break. At the time I was not involved in any campus ministry, the church I went to on Sundays didn’t have a mission trip program set up yet, and my church back home had no trips going over my spring break. So, one night I was at small group and a girl in my group said that she was going on a mission trip with UGA Wesley Foundation. I decided to go home and look online to see where they were going. When I looked to see where they were going, one trip stuck out to me and it was Costa Rica; however, I also noticed that I was about 2 months past the application dead line. So I just kind of figured that it wouldn’t work out and I left it alone. All through that week though, I had more and more of a desire to go on that mission trip. So, I went online and decided to take a chance an apply any way. The next week was final exams, and on the last 2nd to last day I got a call from Jill, who was leading our trip. She told me that they had put me on the Costa Rica trip and I just needed to turn in my deposit before I went home for the break. Over the next couple months leading up to the trip, we had a meeting once a week, but when it came time to leave, I still felt like I barely knew anyone. So here I was going on a trip to a different country with 17 people I didn’t know. It turned out to be one of the best and most life changing weeks ever. Before we left I was set on being a math teacher, mom and a wife, and that was about it. That week though, something inside me changed, and I could feel God calling me to do something more. I came back from that trip and decided that I was supposed to be a missionary.
Then, my friend Bill went on a mission trip to Africa and when he came back he told me about these people that he had met that were on this 11-month mission trip called The World Race. He told me a little bit about it and told me that he was planning on going on it. I thought it sounded pretty cool but that was about it. Then, about 2 to 3 weeks went by and I realized that I was thinking about the trip more and more so I decided to talk to Bill about it to find out a little bit more. This time when he was telling me about it I was pretty sure that I was supposed to go on this mission trip. I called Jeff and Wendy to find out what they thought about it. They were a little bit unsure, but told me if I felt like that is where I was supposed to be than I should at least go ahead and fill out the application. And that is how I was called to the World Race.
