Sure sdey!
Days 1-3 in Cambodia:
- Dealt with 11 hour jet lag… it’s no joke.
- Traveled to 2 villages (that we had to walk to because of impassable roads in the rainy season)
- Taught some English! (YAY!)
- Fell in love with Cambodian friends & our hosts
- Watched a baby girl play with a frog
- Took a few bucket showers, mostly to cool off
- Did some Zumba in our home
- Ate pig intestine (it was good!)
- Walked through what used to be a minefield
- Heard testimony from our pastor/host Sophy Lun about his vision for the church in Cambodia
- Learned about the type of Buddhism here in Cambodia and the Hungry Ghost festival
- Rode in some tuk tuks
- Learned basic Khmer
- Set up our home and beds (and hammocks!) next to the school building
- Enjoyed the beauty of the town of Siem Reap
- Sweat constantly. So humid.
- Woke up to Buddhist prayer music during this Hungry Ghost festival season
- Started to love and get to know my team even more.
- Rode 9 hours from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap
- Journaled a lot
- Met teacher friends and laughed with our hosts
- Found a cafe with Wifi!
- Experienced joy in rice paddies, waving to village babies, seeing water buffalo, cows, and snakes
- Attended church in Khmer (and felt God’s presence there)
- Ate on a rooftop overlooking a crocodile farm next door, rice paddies, a sunset, and mountains
So it’s been pretty busy.
I’m definitely on the World Race!
I love Cambodia. I see God in so many new ways here. This land is gorgeous. The people are beautiful. There is poverty everywhere- especially compared to the touristy, wealthier town we live in here. It’s hard to know how to help, where to start, how to not hurt. The jungle is close- and creation is STUNNING. It’s hot. The church is oppressed, but God is obviously working. Love is growing.
Pray for strength & continued growth through the ministry of our hosts, Mustard Seed School & Sophy & Yuwat Lun. (They’re amazing.) Pray for our new teacher friends & unity as we teach here this month. Pray for conviction & work of the Spirit to open hearts here & in the villages.
Thank you for your prayers, as we are so fortunate & blessed by our hosts already!! Everyone is safe, healthy, and taken care of. BLESSINGS! I’m in love with the Khmer people & our home here in Siem Reap. We start teaching tomorrow!! Of course, I can’t wait to jump right into my favorite thing… teaching English!
Side note: It has been a harder adjustment process than I expected, but I would rather press into the difficulty than run from it. Especially when I’m feeling unanchored and far from all I know, far from myself even, I find little ways to experience the Lord. I love and miss you all!
Today, we rest and prepare for the week ahead. Happy Monday from Cambodia!!
Pray yaysu srolahn nak! Khnom srohlahn nak!
