About June 6th, while perusing the Adventures in Missions website, two words caught my eye: World Race. I clicked on the link, and found myself reading about a novel concept in short term missions: 11 countries in 11 months – traveling around the world to plant churches, develop ministries, serve God, and encourage His people. It’s an intriguing concept to be sure, but too crazy for me, or so I thought. Out of boredom, mostly, I e-mailed the link to my husband Gary, with a subject title along the lines of “The Craziest Thing I’ve Ever Seen”.
In the past, Gary and a friend had tossed around the idea of applying for “the Amazing Race” together, but reality had always prevailed, and they had never pursued that idea. I knew that Gary would relish the idea of venturing into new landscapes, seeing new vistas, and appreciating God’s creation, especially with a “missions” spin on it. I also knew however, that Gary likes to sleep in his own bed, take regular hot showers, and consume predictable cuisine. Gary definitely wasn’t the “missions” type… again, or so I thought.
To be continued…
