Back to the point… all of our major life decisions have been clearly directed by the Lord, and I suppose it was easy to assume it would always be this way. Until now. There was no clear sign. There was no voice from heaven. My husband thought I was crazy. But slowly, little by little, things began to change. I noticed that whenever my mind began to wander, it would wander to the idea of this trip. I began to pray for the people in the various countries on the itinerary. Even Gary started to consider that this wasn’t as far-fetched of an idea as it originally appeared. During my bible reading, every verse about going to the nations virtually leaped off the page at me!

Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise…
Psalm 96:2-4

Another verse from Matthew especially stood out to me, when Jesus sent his disciples out to spread the gospel, saying
“The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Matthew 9:38)

This verse troubled me, because I have never had a sense of a ‘plentiful harvest’ here in California. Adults that I’ve talked to about Christianity all have their minds made up. People have already heard about Jesus, they know that to be a Christian means giving up their sinful lifestyles, and they just don’t want to do it. I started to feel that I was sharing a gospel not of good news, but of bad news, because people didn’t want their lives to change. I am willing to be a worker for the Lord, but where is this harvest field He’s talking about?
