I promised all of you that I would blog and so I will…
Blogging is going to be hard for me. It makes it very very real when I start to write my words and thoughts down and sometimes it’s scary for me to share these thoughts and words with the World Wide Web. So bear me with me on this journey of run on sentences and misplaced commas because the World Race Journey has begun and blogging must too.
Launch started on Oct 2nd in Atlanta, Georgia which was only 9 days ago, we left for Costa Rica October 5th and arrived in San Jose and while the time has flown by it has also weirdly felt like I have already been here for a long time. My team and I have settled in and upon arrival we were immediately immersed into the culture. It has been amazing. We are staying and working around San Jose, this is the nations capital, we are in the central region of the country. The landscape is a mix between breathtaking mountains and busy city streets. To the north the city is lined with the Talamanca Mountains and to the south volcanos. The mountains are like nothing I have ever seen they create a lush green landscape that is quite captivating every time you walk outside. Our ministry house has a room with a window that overlooks the mountains in the distance it’s a view I will never forget.
Our ministry this month has many different faces. So far we have been helping a Tica (Costa Rican) family paint, organize and clean their home. Our ministry host is from the United States and she has no family here so they have taken her in as their own and we are happy to help them with the mini home makeover.
Our future tasks includes but is not limited to, painting a rehabilitation center, speaking/ preforming to inform some of the locals and government officials about the culture of United States, church construction and medical clinic construction. Our ministry hosts name is June and she is an all around amazing person! She really has given her heart to serve her local community so we are just trying to help her continue her good works by being a part of the process and making things a little easier for her.
In my last blog I introduced you all to my team mates. We make up 1 team of 7 on a squad of 40+ and my team has a blast together. I think that in the midst of a big change of scenery and daily life they have been a constant source of love and they love well. They love so well that we have yet to have a day without laughter. We laugh a lot. We love a lot and even though we still have a lot to learn about each other they have already become my family. Our host June aka Junebug is an angel and she fits right into the team so perfectly. I can’t imagine leaving her home at the end of this month because she truly loves us like we are her own brothers and sisters. She is such a source of joy.
Today we had our first team workout and I must admit my abs (or lack thereof) were already pretty sore considering the belly laughing and the laugh so hard you accidentally toot kind of laughter that we have experienced everyday so far.
June said to us one evening while we were all sitting together laughing, “there is so much love going around here and it’s not even the 60’s” and well June was right.
I love Costa Rica, I love my teammates, I love June our one of a kind host, I love our Tica family and I love that I have been given this chance to travel and to share the love that was given to me. I love that we can learn new ways to love everyday. I challenge all of my loved ones, all of my blog readers, all of my friends and all of my supporters to love in these 10 ways.
1. LISTEN without interrupting. (Proverbs 18) 2. SPEAK without accusing. (James 1:19) 3. GIVE without sparing. (Proverbs 21:26) 4. PRAY without ceasing. (Colossians 1:9) 5. ANSWER without arguing.
