So we got to go to the jungle after all!! It wasn’t quite one month, but it was still an experience of a lifetime!
We hiked through a banana plantation “cable 52”
and walked right into a jungle.
These people literally lived in the middle of it. Their house looked like a tree house,
and their water was collected from the rain. A few years back they had had such a huge flood that the ground of their house had actually raised because it all settled, so on the bottom floor you had to duck as you walked around so you wouldn’t bump your head.
To bathe you had to take a long hike through the jungle to this river that was freezing,
but it felt so amazing to get clean..ish! There were times when I felt like we had a glimpse of what the garden of eden was like! When you were hungry you could walk right outside to any tree and pick off some fresh, lush, delicious fruit!
This is a cocoa fruit (I never knew chocolate came from a fruit!)
The family we stayed with was so humble. They have a love for God like I’ve never seen before! And they were so excited to learn more about God from us. They could’t wait for us to teach them. Here Josh is preaching and I’m translating.. I love working side by side as a team=D
They had five kids: Eileen, Alex, Renan, Ezekial, and Oldemar. (The smallest one in this photo is their cousin.)
They were so precious. Their family would wake up every morning at 3am to pray. Sometimes their prayers were so loud they would wake us up. While I’d lie there half awake at 3 in the morning, a part of me would want to be frustrated, but as I’d hear their prayers go up to God my heart couldn’t help but melt. To hear the genuine praises to God, and here their prayers for their people. These people have nothing, but they have everything..They are so thankful, so full of joy, and so in love with Jesus. It was convicting for me.
I want to be that in love with Christ. I want to be so in love with Him that I cant help but praise Him in all circumstances! I want to take my time with Him so seriously that I would wake up at any hour of the night to speak with Him. To be fully surrendered, so completely lost in Him that I am actually found in Him!
