Almost a week ago our team was given the privilege to join a local Christian school in El Tizate for their morning devotion and worship. I thought that it would be a nice little quiet scripture reading, a song or two and that would be that. Man was I wrong!!! They start the morning off with prayer and these kids pray! Instead of leading the children into prayer the leaders pray and worship along side the kids. It was so humbling to hear these little kids that were anywhere from 5-12 years old praising and thanking God for just about anything! From family and friends to their food or clothes and even their cats and dogs. They thanked Jesus out loud for the cross and for his life inside of them. This prayer and time of thanksgiving went on for a good 10-15 minutes. And then we got to my favorite part which is worship. Being a worship leader back home has really given me an appreciation for passionate and heartfelt worship. These kids sang at the top of their lungs as they praised and worshipped Jesus, the Holy Spirit and their heavenly Father. Some had their hands raised, others had their eyes closed in prayer. Some would randomly shout out thankfulness or an attribute of God. They sang for what seemed about 35-40 minutes and the team was blown away. It was so engaging that we joined in and began to sing and worship our creator right alongside these amazing little kids. Something in our hearts changed that morning as we walked out of that school. We knew that we had encountered something very special in that classroom. We had been given a lesson how to worship God as a grateful child of His Kingdom. Jesus said in Matthew 18:3 “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” This means that we must realize that we are to have faith like a child who recognizes their sin and need for a savior. These little kids have learned that even though they may not have earthly dads (which most of them don’t), they have a heavenly Father who forgives their sin and adopts them into His family. These kids may be the paupers of this world but they are joint heirs with Christ and royalty in the kingdom of heaven.
