Have you ever had a moment when you felt really, really small? I had one of those moments recently. Standing in the middle of a soccer field in Swaziland, I looked into the sky and my perspective of God completely changed. I know that God loves me. Trust me. I know this is a fact. Not only have I seen it, but I have preached on this very concept. But whenever you see God differently, when He allows our finite minds to comprehend Him just a little bit more, our point of view is blown out of the water and I am left standing breathless before my creator in all of His supremacy and splendor.
I have been in this country so far for a week and the Lord has already taught me so much. Our ministry is to go to care points a couple days a week and serve in whatever way we can. I say that because the first day we showed up and we received no direction, no plan, and no agenda. My team and I were left confused.
We know we are suppose to help serve the food. We get that. But after that there is still more hours in the day that we are to be with the kids. Questions started popping up in my head. What are we doing? Are we really going to leave a lasting impact on these kids? What if we do not have anything to “do”? I began to ask God for clarity. He gave me these answers.
God, what are we doing?
You are here to serve me. You, my child, are to show the least of these my love and do it without question. If you focus on having a plan you will miss out on everything I have for you this month, and even more so. Life. Joshua, I want your heart and for you to abandon anything and everything that will get in the way of bringing my kingdom to my people.
God are we really going to leave a lasting impact on these kids?
You won’t. But I will. You, Joshua, said yes to doing and being whatever and whoever I ask you to be when you signed up for this journey. You said yes to being my hands and feet to the nations. You said yes to GO and make disciples. Joshua, I have chosen you and have made very special and divine appointments for you. You will be my witness to the ends of the earth. You will not leave a lasting impact on anyone, but when you let Me use you, you will see life change. But it will not be because of anything you do, but everything that I do inside of you.
God what if we do not have anything to do?
Just be Jesus to the people. Whenever you feel inadequate, or like you do not have a plan, just sit and let my love pour out of you. Something special happens when you get your plan out of your thick skull and you let me, The Alpha and the Omega, inside of you and allow Me to use you. This month is not about what you can do, this month is about what I can do through you. Just be ready to be used. Be ready to be changed. Joshua, be ready to bring me glory.
It is kind of funny how when we hear God’s voice we realize how small we are and how big He is. Just like the nights of standing under the entire Milky Way Galaxy, I am left standing in awe of God. God is not someone we can put in a box, or try to understand, but He is outside of our understanding. Deuteronomy 31:8 has been on my heart lately and it says “the Lord Himself will go before you.” How awesome is that to know that in every situation that you ever come across, God is already there. He is cheering you on. God is waiting for you to “abandon the path of making more of self and embracing the mindset of being small.” You are little, but that is okay. You serve, and I serve, a very very big God.
