We arrived in Chiang Mai, Thailand a week ago and began our time here with Debrief as a squad. Debrief (every 2 months) is a time set up to reflect on the past 2 months, set goals for the next 2 months, get filled back up so we can continue to pour into others and time for relaxation. Today ministry started.
We will be working with Lighthouse in Action. You can visit their website lighthouseinaction.org to see more about the ministry here. 3 teams are working with LIA, each in a different branch of ministry. My team, which changed this past week after being the same team for 5 months (blog coming soon), is working with Love Acts.
A short 15 minute walk from our home is the Red Light District. A street full of bars, restaurants and massage parlors filled with woman and lady boys selling their bodies and young children selling flowers late into the night. My heart breaks for them as they feel as they have no choice but to either sell themselves or go hungry and homeless. This month we are here to love them like Christ loves them. To love them through our actions and not to preach at them. To build friendships with them, show them they are worthy, and to give them a hope of something different. All through actions!
Mondays-Thursdays we will be doing prayer walks down the red light district in the afternoon. In the evenings, we will dress as tourists on a night out around town and we will go sit in the bars. We will buy the woman and lady boys drinks, play pool or other games with them, and chat about life with them. We will also love on the children who are selling flowers and play games with them also. We will also set up dates with them during our free time taking them to lunch, to the movies, bowling, out for coffee, shopping, or whatever else they would like to do. Sometimes this will require us “Buying” them for the night meaning we will pay the bar fee (what a man would pay to take them to a hotel).
This month will be about planting and watering seeds, loving through action, praying behind the scenes, and showing who Christ is through who we are. Please keep my team and I in prayer during this time. Pray that God will set up divine appointments, that we will speak and walk in the spirit, the hearts of the prostitutes will be open, and that He will cover us with protection. Thank you all so much!
