Growing up, Sunny Delight was where it was at! Drinking a big, cold glass under the scorching, North Carolina sun with my brothers was GOLD.
Whenever I heard the word ‘delight’, my mind would fly back to those summer days and I could taste the sugary, yet tangy juicy on my tongue. However, last semester the word ‘delight’ came to mean something completely different to me. I attended a small group called ‘Freedom’ (I am now co-leading a Freedom group) through my home church in Alabama. In this group, I learned and experienced so much. I released numerous burdens that I had been carrying – some that I was unaware of. In short, I experienced FREEDOM in this small group.
As I am co-leading this semester, I was reminded of 3 words… An equation that is extremely powerful for me…
{desire + discipline = delight}
1. Desire… something inside of you, a desire, to spend time daily in the Word.
2. Discipline… holding yourself accountable to reading the Word, praying, and worshipping.
3. Delight… you’re able to enjoy your time with the Lord, it’s viewed as a pleasure.
Put the first two together and you get the third. When you desire to really understand the Bible AND discipline yourself to actually meditating on His Word, praying, and worshiping… it is THEN you are able to experience delight.
Psalm 1:2 says that the righteous man delights in the law of the Lord and meditates on it day and night. When you meditate and chew on His Word, the Lord gives you a revelation through it, which then gives you faith and the dreams God has for you begin to blossom.
In my life now, delight is no longer a sweet, tangy taste. Instead, it is a pleasure that I experience in His sweet presence.
