Alongside being based in a specific ministry location, we will be heading out into the city and surrounding communities to engage in a variety of projects, taking the name and gospel of Jesus to those who need to hear it.

I will, of course, report in more detail the things that we are doing as and when I have done them but for now let me give you an overview of some of the things our squad will be engaged in over the coming weeks.

  • Schools work – each week a different group will spend several days in a number of local schools, working with kids aged between 12 and 19 and taking several lessons or assemblies a day. These lessons seek to deal with some of the issues affecting the young people here and will focus especially on Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Self-Esteem.

  • Dump city – There is a community of around 2,000 people who live at the city dump and who spend their days going through the rubbish, not only for recyclables to perhaps sell like we saw in Guatemala, but also for food to eat. I was shocked enough last month, but to know people are looking for the very food to sustain themselves amongst all of that household and who knows what else waste is sickening.

  • Alcoholics Anonymous – a group will get to go and meet a number who are recovering from alcohol addiction and share their testimonies and the good news of Jesus with them.

  • Women’s prison – copies of passports required to get in here, the prisons are not segregated in terms of severity of crime here but rather have every class of offender in one

  • Juvenile prison – as above, although obviously with minors.

  • Roadside evangelism – once a week we will set up along the roads near to where a lot of the street vendors go from car to car trying to find a sale, but instead of trying to get people’s money we will be handing out free tracts sharing about the love of God and offering to pray with anyone who may want us to. We will probably even have cheesy signs like ‘Honk if you love Jesus’ to add some more fun to it all.

There are possibly other things I’m not currently remembering, but needless to say we will be kept busy this month and be fortunate to see a variety of outreaches in this country.
