Well, yesterday marked one month (30 days) until the race is officially over!* I can’t believe it is almost done! It’s been an immense journey and tomorrow we head onto our next and final location – Jino Tepe in Nicaragua.
Our final week here looked a lot like last week – Monday to Wednesday was English lessons in the mornings and work in the garden in the afternoons (although we had pretty much finished the garden work we had allotted on Monday so afternoons were pretty chill and I got some of my own things done) and then Thursday was IHNFA again (a new skit and cardboard testimonies added in).
Today we were a little different – we headed out early in the morning and headed up to the top of one of the hills overlooking Tegucigalpa. This particular hill is well known for the statue of Jesus overlooking the city, not dissimilar to the one in Rio de Janeiro, although smaller. There’s also a zoo there and the area is a national park.
As we close our time here there’s a lot to reflect on – the many different places, from prisons, to the dump, to a rehab centre; the many different people, from inmates, to workers, to addicts; to our contacts, the missionaries, the boys we work with, the pastors. Tegucigalpa is a very varied place and it has been inspiring to see all of the ways that the church here interacts with and reaches out to those in all the different communities.
*Although we finish on the 28th of July I won’t be back in the UK until the 7th August, but I’ll share more about that when I get near to that time…
