Having made the 8 hour bus ride from Puerto Barrios the men were relieved to find out that our month in Honduras will not be as swelteringly hot as the last month was. We are at a higher elevation this month, located not far from the capital city of Tegucigalpa (pronounced Te-goo-sig-al-pa) and so the temperature is much closer to that of home about this time of year.

We pulled in to our location at about 4pm, having left at 8am with our prayers and goodbyes to the staff we were able to work with last month, and promptly unloaded our packs and set up our tents (yep, tents this month) before waiting for what was originally hoped to be 2 hours but turned out to be about 5 hours for all of the girls to arrive.

This month we have the whole squad in the same location, so instead of meeting up for the travel day from one country to the next and then going our separate ways again, we instead made our respective ways here and are spending the whole four weeks here.

The ministry has about four buildings, the main house where the staff and the boys live, a building housing the toilets and showers, the bigger building that we have taken up most of the floor space of with our tents and that also has the living/dining room, and another building being completed that another group will be staying in.

So there are roughly 40 of us, there are about 15 who live here as staff and the boys they care for, and then another group from AIM (the organisation in charge of the World Race) called Passport of about eight are arriving in a few days time and they will stay here for two months. So there will be nearly 65 of us living, eating and working together this month, which, needless to say, will be the largest group of people we have had in one place at once this year. When we were in South Africa we had a group of about 25 and Mozambique was about 22 people, both of which now pail in comparison.

But we’re excited to spend the month together as a squad and looking forward to learning about all of the activities that we will be working on. Updates as I have them 🙂

NB: We have no internet on site and are currently only scheduled to go to the mall on Friday afternoons, so it looks like regular conversation is unlikely and Skype-ing back home will be difficult.
