So the first few days in our ministry location have passed and it turns out we’ve pulled an amazing first location. For one thing having a pet monkey (called Moy-Moy) is something that had never crossed my mind before. We’re on a beautiful island, based in a church about ten minutes’ walk from the beach (a fact we will be making use of in free time) and about half an hour’s trek from a cool little waterfall area that we can swim in.

We’re based with Threads of Hope, which started a few years ago when a man named Alex met a family whowas selling handmade bracelets to tourists on the beach and spent time with them, seeing the poverty in which they live (and hearing about how many other families had sold children into prostitution just so they had something to eat). Whilst there he offered to buy $100 worth of bracelets from them to see if he would be able to sell them back in the states, which he did, managing to fetch around $1000 for them all. Threads of Hope now buy 120,000 bracelets a month from local residents providing an income to many families and investing the profits back into schooling, medical care and the local church Aninuan Christian Church where we are currently staying. Check their website for more details.

So far we’ve helped out at a church meeting, got to meet and play with some of the local kids and worked hard at demolishing a small structure nearby and then using the parts to build a second room as an attachment to one of the housing huts. We’re currently sat in a small resort not too far from the church where we are able to get online, but not very often as there is no internet at the church. Probably won’t be on for another week after today, but I’m sure I’ll have lots to share by then and I’ll give you more detail 🙂
Trusting all is well with you, leave me a comment to let me know how you are.
