Every week on The World Race, our teams get a day off to go and explore the local city we are living in. Its a great opportunity to go and experience the culture, people, food (one of my personal favorites), and just take time to hang out and have fun!
Day 50 of our World Race journey Matt, Sara, Jess, Jenn, & I decided to go hang out with one of the volunteer girls from Eagles Wings. So we met her downtown and had some street food (which contrary to popular belief, is safe to eat, HAHA) and then hopped a bus to the “TV Studio”. Now, when she first told us about the studio, we were thinking it was going to be like “ABC Studios” or something of that nature. We might stay for 1 hour or so and that would probably be about it… We were way wrong.
As we are pulling up, I notice this MASSIVE temple on the side of this mountain and I asked Plum, the volunteer, “what is that place”? She replies, “that is our destination”! I was so freaking excited! We get out of the bus and start to explore this incredible place. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. I thought to myself, “Oh my gosh! We are in China”! It was the typical Chinese architecture that most people would imagine every building in China to look like. I was pumped because I grew up watching the “3 Ninjas” movies as a kid and dreaming of one day going to visit places like they got to go see. On a side note, Andrew Ours, if you read this, no… I did not find Maury Shin-taro, and nobody lived in the building because it was “very very old”. Anyways, back to the story… HAHA
So as we are climbing hundreds of stairs and looking at all the cool sites, we realize that there are a lot of guys dressed up in costumes, but there are not many visitors at all. We get to the top of a large staircase and there are people everywhere, cameras, booms, lights, etc. They were filming something! These guys in worrier costumes rush over to us and want photos with us. This continues for about 10 minutes, person after person wanting a photo. Then this director looking dude walks over and asks us if we want to meet the main character. We flipped out! The guy is gettings his make-up done and gets up to come talk to us and get photos! The director said, “you all are more famous than the actor”! Haha… We finish up there and said goodbye, and continue to explore the temple. At the top of the temple you can see for miles and miles and we notice that there are other movie sets behind this one. So we take off down the mountain to see what else we can get into…
To be continued…
