Romans 6:5-11
“Since we have been united with Him in His death, we will also be raised as He was. Our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. And since we died with Christ, we know we will also share His new life. We are sure of this because Christ rose from the dead, and He will never die again. Death no longer has any power over Him. He died once to defeat sin, and now He lives for the glory of God. So you should consider yourselves dead to sin and able to live for the glory of God through Christ Jesus.”
In Malaysia, our each member of Team Greater Love wrote a “eulogy” to themselves. We each took time to meditate on the fleshy things we want to die to and wrote them down on a piece of paper. Later that evening, we read aloud our “eulogies” to each other, and then cremated them.
So, here it is. My eulogy.
I choose to die to my desire for control.
I choose to die to putting my wants above the needs of others.
I choose to die to speaking out in frustration over grace.
I choose to die to desiring the approval of people over my heavenly Father.
I choose to die to putting my hopes and trust in my own “strengths.” These “strengths” are really weaknesses that need to be perfected by His strengths.
I choose to die to the image I have made God into. I want to see, to know, and understand Him as Yaweh, as the I AM.
I choose to die to unforgivesness towards others. I want to choose forgiveness and healing over hurt and bitterness.
I choose to die to anxiety.
I choose to die to disrespecting my husband.
I choose to die to my desire to know the unknown. This desire shows my lack of trust in the Almighty and His provision.
I choose to die to poor self image. My identity is in Christ, and He views me as beautiful.
I choose to die to my plans for the future, and submit to the plans He has for me.
Today, I choose to die to myself, so that Christ may live in me, giving me new life in Him!
