Every month I intend to keep track of the things we’ve done and some of what I’ve learned and impart that wisdom on to ya’ll. These blogs will be called Life learned: __________Edition (Fill in blank with the country we’re in at the time.

 Month 1: January

  • Ministry host: Beacon of Hope ran by Angie Wheeler
  • Sleeping Arrangements: Tents in her living room as Mosquito nets for most of us, some in the back bedroom on their pads with mosquito nets.
  • Food: Provided for us. Lots of rice, and bread. Although we were also treated with Mexican food, Indian food, and American Spaghetti every Sunday night.
  • Electricity: Yes
  • Water: Running, Cold Showers
  • Flushing Toilets
  • Weather: 80’s-90’s, some rain, humid. Reminds me of Florida Summer.

Life Learned:

  1. Cold showers feel great in the morning even if you’re just going to get hot and sticky again.
  2. There is no such thing as too much deodorant.
  3. Appreciate the small stuff. A can of cold coke is amazing once in a while.
  4. People love it when you try to understand them or try to speak their language, even if you have no clue what you’re actually doing.
  5. Handwashing laundry isn’t so bad.
  6. I can touch end-to-end in my tent when I lay down.
  7. Team time is more important than WIFI time, even if you really want that WiFi time.
  8. I am more introverted then I originally thought.
  9. Gangnam Style crosses all nations.
  10. Community 24/7 all the time is hard. You always have someone nearby.
  11. Figuring out the time zone thing to connect with people back home is harder than I originally thought it would be.
  12. Ministry has so many different looks. Ex. Teaching, preaching, creating curriculum, praying, cutting folders, creating a war room for your host, etc…I can’t wait to see all the different ways Ministry takes form this year.
  13. This is Africa…is a phrase we use often
  14. Quiet time always takes longer then you expect…partly because you’re bound to be interrupted by someone.
  15. Bug bites are going to happen, just deal with it.
  16. Quiet time isn’t any easier to do here than back home. If you don’t make time for it you won’t do it.
  17. Goodbye’s suck!

Prayer Requests: As this month here in Mozambique comes to an end next Wed, the 3rd. I have just a few prayer requests:

  • Pray for safe travels for my squad and I as we head to Malawi starting next Wednesday (I think).
  • Pray for fundraising to continue to go well. I have fallen in love with what we’re doing, and I would love for nothing more than to do this for the entire eleven months that we’re supposed to be doing it, however that is only possible if I continue to have people back home support me financial. I am currently around $2300 away from my next deadline which is due at the end of February
  • Pray that the nights get cooler or we find a way to stay cooler, sometimes it can be hard to sleep when its so hot. Or perhaps the better request would be that our bodies accumulate to the heat at night so that we can all get restful sleep.
  • Pray for me as I continue this journey, not just with my team and squad, but my growth in Christ as well. Its only been a few weeks and I can already feel him starting to work on me and change me, so just pray that I am open and willing to grow, and to seek what he is trying to show me, and to use it to better my relationship with him.

As Always,

God Bless,
