How often do you go to a public high school and find a class that is specifically geared towards Christians? Not so often… But in Humansdorp, South Africa, there is one.

Jesus Our Teacher. JOT.
I have had the opportunity to teach multiple classes about The World Race, post high school options, my story, and morals… aaaand abundant facts about Wisconsin and the U.S.
No, I do not often see celebrities where I live. ![]()
Here’s an example of what we’d talk about during our class:
Self Respect: Love yo’self
Had you met me before I began the race, you would probably not have recognized me. I had long blonde hair, I was fifteen pounds lighter, my skin was pale, and I was fully focused on being discontent with myself. I saw every little flaw in my actions, in what I said, and in what I looked like. I was full of self-rejection, bitterness, and shame. I was hard on myself, always believing I would never be good enough. I saw no worth in myself.
Poema.
-Greek for workmanship, handiwork, masterpiece
-The root of the word “poem”… we are God’s poem!
-“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
-God has placed in each of us divine characteristics (… made in His image… Genesis 1:26) and gifts (…different spiritual gifts…same spirit gives them… 1 Corinthians 12:4)
That’s right, he made us, he has a plan for us. (Jeremiah 1:5; 29:11)
-He created us to be like him, he created us to be his masterpiece.
-He created us with purpose but he doesn’t need us (He answered, “I tell you, if they remain silent, the very stones will cry out.” Luke 19:40)
-But he wants us! He wants to delight in his masterpiece.
Masterpiece.
–The pinnacle of an artists work.
-A complete, beautiful, irreplaceable, inimitable, piece. It is adored.
-“When [I] was introduced to a local artist, I was struck by the deep passion he had for his work. He had complete confidence in his own ability. He spoke highly of his work, pointing out that each was a custom made original. I was amazed by his keen attention to detail. To an artist, each piece of work is unique, formed first within the artists mind before it is actually produced. The artist thoroughly explores every inch of the creation before he calls it complete.” – Erik Rees
