When you think “missionary,” you probably imagine smiles and orphan hugs, optimism and elbow grease, worldly poor and culturally and spiritually rich people. I mean, hey! That’s what came to my mind ever since I was small, and it is true! But there’s so much more.
To start, missionaries are normal people. They’re family, neighbors, friends, and strangers. Sometimes they’re here and sometimes they’re far away, but wherever they are, God has them where He wants them, just like you.
Until now, the day I head to launch for the World Race, I had never understood how hard it is to be a missionary. That’s right, I haven’t even left yet and I’m the biggest mess you’ve ever seen! Raising funds? Whoa. I couldn’t do it, God is such an incredible provider! (Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who’s helped me to get here)! Having to meet a whole new traveling family in 10 days? Nerve wracking! Packing was hard, the goodbyes were harder and there are still more to come—cue the tears.
What really makes it all worthwhile though is knowing why I’m doing this and who I’m doing this for. I’m not doing it to impress people at home or to travel the world cheap and safe—although that’s a pretty sweet bonus—I’m doing this to further the kingdom of God! It’s not going to be luxurious or easy, it’s going to be the hardest thing I’ve ever done but my anticipation is out of this world.
So now I’ve got five more days in the states before I head to Thailand and I’d like to thank everybody for helping to get me this far! I am fully funded, praise God! Everything is set, it’s time to go.
Please contact me whenever! I don’t know how often I’ll be able to respond, but I’ll try my best.
