Bright and surely. Just take a moment and think about what that phrase means.
Striking. Consistent. Brilliant. Undeniable. Dazzling. Conspicuous. Radiant. Evident.
Every darn day.
The sun comes up each morning, it has ever since it was created. But on some days, it gets blocked out and everything looks gloomy. Clouds are in the sky, the blinds are shut, the trees are too tall for light to peek through, you name it! For some reason, those days just seem a little bit harder with the cool air and no brilliant light to coax you out of sleep.
Typical Wisconsin winter.
Now let’s say the sun is God and all those sun-blockers are things we’re putting before Him. (I know, that was super cliché but it’s also super applicable).
Right now, I’ve got a few things between God and I, and they’re casting a pretty big shadow.
It’s the little things in life that seem to cast the biggest shadows. I find myself worrying over silly things like soccer practice and sleep, fundraising and finding a summer job. I convince myself that those are the most important things and I should focus on them. Forget taking time to read my Bible or go to youth group tonight, even taking a second to thank God for all he does for me, I have to get a real job, make money, rest, and be on my game for tomorrow!
But are they going to have an effect on the Kingdom?
So how do we deal with this stuff? It’s pretty hard to get these little worries and idols out of the way.
Sometimes you’re going to have to wait for the clouds to pass and stay constant. God isn’t going to leave you, even when there are big things in your way. You just have to be patient and trust Him. Things get hard! It’ll be okay.
Other times, you might need a change in lifestyle. Open the blinds and let the light in this morning. Yeah, ten more minutes of sleep would be nice but if you want to make a change and get a start on things, the changes need to start now or you’ll be stuck in a rut and it’ll just keep getting deeper the more you spin your wheels.
And more often than you think, you’re going to need to get a change of scenery. Where you are in life isn’t always where you’re supposed to be. When you’re drained and the door you’re knocking on just won’t open, it’s time to find a new one. Get out from behind those trees, climb a mountain, search for God and you most certainly will find Him and His will for you.
