The last few weeks I haven’t been feeling so well. I’ve felt pretty sluggish and not very comfortable in my body.
I’ve realized, it’s a normal feeling as a missionary.
Even if we have “normal” clothes or makeup on, the heat and humidity make it feel like getting ready was all a waste of time. Let’s not talk about what it does to our skin and hair! Plus, you can’t eat or workout like you do back home due to your limited budget & ministry schedule.
It is not just me, right?
We all want to feel cute & fit, right?
All and all, I’ve learned to cope with this uncomfortable feeling living abroad while serving the nations.
But you know, sometimes it comes back and God uses it to teach me something.
Something affirming. Something that brings a smile to my face.
He uses anything, anyone and anywhere to make this happen.
I truly believe God uses people, especially strangers to life up our spirits.
Because strangers don’t know you, they don’t have anything to gain or lose.
Here’s how I know this is true:
After our youth event last Saturday, I had a few of the girls staring me down. With a suspicious look, they came up to me and asked me,
“Are you a superstar????” The teen asked.
“Who, Me???” In shock, I awkwardly laughed.
They continued by touching my hair and asking me if it was real.
(So I thought, “But wait, can I be a Kardashian in South Africa? MMhhh!”)
…I’m kidding!
What I did think, “God you are too funny!”
Two days before, I had a woman leader of our ministry tell me I have the face of a famous person.
Who, Me??? I laughed.
Again I thought, “God you’re too funny!”
But then, on our way home from from ministry it hit me…
It was no accident, it was no coincidence.
God was talking to me through strangers!
God was reminding me that I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
That I am beautiful.
That I am His best creation.
That even though I have moments where I feel negatively about myself, His opinion about me never changes.

So next time when a stranger says something uplifting to you…
Remember it’s just a little reminder from God!
