Though Chris was born in St. Louis, his parents were missionaries and he spent the majority of his growing up years overseas (two years in Paraguay and nine years in Nigeria). I’ve had the opportunity to do some short term missions work in Romania, India and Haiti. These were formative times in our lives, helping us to see the world as God does and growing our hearts for the poor.
Three months into our marriage (September 2012), I found myself unable to sleep….I couldn’t get the World Race out of my mind. I thought and prayed about it all night and all the next day, unable to shake the idea and knowing I had to talk to Chris about it. I was nervous, unsure of what he would say, but when I got over my nerves and presented the idea, he simply said, “When can we leave?”
From that moment on, our excitement has grown for the calling God has for our lives.
