When I first moved to Annapolis, I started to hear people talk about the concept of "soaking" in the Presence of God. Spending time with the Lord; not doing anything except being still in His Presence. I had tried to do it a few times on my own but I usually got distracted or fell asleep haha.
After hearing countless friends talk about the rest, rejuvenation, healing, visions, and other spiritual breakthrough they were experiencing from soaking, I decided to try again, just alongside other people this time haha.
As we got together and invited God to come and spend time with us, my friend Darlene shared this story:
She had once talked to a man who bought a used car with thick white racing stripes around it that he hated and wanted to remove. When he got the car home, he took a chisel to the stripes and spent hours chipping away at them. Despite his efforts, he had barely made an inch of progress and the stripes stuck tight to the body of the car. Then the Holy Spirit told him, “go get some ‘goo-be-gone,’ and apply it to the stripes once a day for 7 days.’ He did and after 5 days (because he was too impatient to wait 7 haha) he took the chisel to the corner of the stripe and when he tapped it, the entire stripe slipped off the car and fell to the ground. Through this, God spoke to his heart saying, “Just like the goo-be-gone melted the stripes off, when you spend time in my Presence, the things you don’t like, that don’t come from me, will fall right off of you.”
It was a beautiful illustration that has changed my perspective on spending time in the Presence of the Lord. My time every Wednesday afternoon has been spent seeking the Presence of God and it is changing everything.
The more time I spend with Him, the more I reflect Him.
Genesis 1:26 ~ "Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
2 Corinthians 3:18 ~ "And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate [or reflect] the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
Love always! <3
