Contacts have never worked with World Race teams before. They don't know our "culture" and habits, or the way we do things. They don't understand that 8 girls and 4 boys can fit into a tiny apartment and live together. They don't think its normal to always be tired. We still get But this month has been amazing irreguardless.
We were truly blessed at the beginning of the month by an amazing church. Once we saw our apartment, we thought we were spoiled. Having a stove, oven, microwave, and fridge had become a luxury. We partnered with a large church in Riga and worked alongside their youth to hand out food to not only the homeless, but anyone who looked like they were in need, put on youth programs, and preached in several newly planted churches. We evangelized on the streets of Riga and told people about Jesus. This was the first time I had done evangelism in a culture similar to America. It was a bit intimidating to me. People were in a hurry, had no time to listen. Unlike Africa and Asia where you get invited in for tea every other house and they want to hear what you have to say. I witnessed many of the similar problems that Americans face pertaining to hearing the gospel. They just don’t have time. It was also difficult for me because I enjoy discipleship: making friends, building a relationship, and then sharing with them about my faith. I personally don’t like to shove Jesus down anyone’s throat.
I felt like Latvia was a small glimpse of what home is going to be like. With all the hustle and bustle, busy lives, malls, restaurants, we can STILL be whiteness in these times! The public notices what we have even when we aren’t speaking. I am excited to return to America and implement some of the things that I experienced and was taught in Latvia.
