A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing.

Six years ago on my first trip to New Zealand, one of our speakers prayed over me. She said that I would be working with and comforting women – widows and children – orphans. Although I have worked with orphans briefly in Rwanda, I feel like her words were ment for yesterday and the future still to come. I was able to share my testimony with about twenty widows and their children. God wants to be our father and husband – he wants to protect, provide and love us. He has given us the church so that we can do this for each other. The women had lost their husbands because of different things and some were even taking care of their grandchildren. They all have many needs and desires for themselves and their children – food, jobs, clothes, school supplies and money to send the chilrend to school. Just as Christ’s heart breaks for these women and chilren so does mine.
