when i was living in new zealand, mexican food was hard to find and very expensive. so i found a flour tortilla recipie and taught myself how to make them. while we were in guatemala we decided to make flour tortillas as we were getting tired of so many corn tortillas!
many people have asked for the recipie, and so i thought i would put it on my blog so that you can all try to make them for yourself. it is very easy to do! they don’t come out like the ones you buy at the store, but they sure taste great!

what you’ll need to make
12 flour tortillas:

2 cups of flour
5 Tablespoons of oil
1/2 cup warm water

Add all of the ingredients together.
Knead the dough for about
3 minutes. Leave the dough to
sit for 1/2 an hour (just throw a towel over the top of the bowl and let it sit).  Knead just a little bit more after done sitting. Break into
12 equally sized balls,
roll out to desired thickness and size.
Place them one at a time onto a
pan on a medium flame. They will need to be flipped quite quickly as you don’t want them to burn or turn crispy.

(i always just do everything by feel/look – so you may need to add more of one thing or another, this is the real recipie but feel free to change things if you want/need).

an added tip – for soft tortillas for folding into burritos: put a little bit of water into a pan and place on the stove, when the water starts to boil put a metal rack over the pot. place the tortilla onto the rack for just a second – tortilla becomes hot and ready to make a burrito without falling apart.

hope you get to enjoy the little taste of missionary living…..
