I was asked the other day what at that moment in time, that very second what I was most excited about for the World Race. The first thing that came to mind was COMMUNITY. Strange first thought compared with everything else that we will be doing I know, but my it was my first thought none the less.
Why COMMUNITY?
Well you see I leave in a town with a decent sized university right smack in the middle of it. But this town is seems like it would be better suited for someplace in Florida nestled in a retirement community or someplace like that. There is not much going on around here which is the point I'm trying to make. And the there is most definately no COMMUNITY. And by that I simpy mean a place where people know your stuff- your joys, your stuggles, where people are there to encourage and hold you accountable. To summarize, WE WERE designed for COMMUNITY-its programmed into our DNA. And wihout the accountability of that COMMUNITY we get messed up. Things start happening and the snowball that starts with a slow roll picks up speed until we are headed for a bad place at break-neck speed… AND SPLAT!!!!!! We hit something we can handle or worse end up in a hole we can dig ourselves out of.
I mentioned a little about my town earlier and i failed to mention that I am part of a network of house churches. And that is great, I LOVE those guys and gals. Thats COMMUNITY but its different….being the only college aged person there, while great, is still frutstrating. Yes they all have been where I am, on the cusp of life where some HUGE descions are about to made, those that will guide my life for the next several years. And while getting the awesome opportunity to learn about parenting styles, how to pick drapes, how to plan family vacations- I crave COMMUNTIY with people my age. And after living in that community for 3 summers, I have to say it is missed.
I'm talking the COMMUNITY where people know your stuff and love you any way, where everyone is equiped with different gifts but are using those gifts to advance towards the same goal- Kingdom Advancement, Discpleship, taking a message of Hope to the Hopeless…
And doing it will living in COMMUNITY
