We thought this section would be a good opportunity to answer some questions “about” us for those of you that don’t know us as well:
1. What is your ethnic background?
Brady – Mostly Norwegian and Scottish. Fun fact – I’m related to both Jesse James, the train robber, and Daniel Boone, the pioneer.
Marin- Scandinavian mostly
2. Who has been the most important person in your life?
Brady – This has to be a tie between my Mom and Dad. They played different roles in my upbringing but both worked extremely hard to raise my sister and I well.
Marin- Tough question. I’ve been blessed with so many positive influences throughout my life. Friends and family is a generic answer, but I’ve had some great friends and family. I can’t pick just one.
3. How did you meet your spouse?
Brady – I don’t remember the exact first time meeting her. I was her PA (commonly called RA) my sophomore year. I do remember thinking that she was, and still is, beautiful.
Marin- He was one of the big guys that helped me carry in all my stuff the first day of freshman year of college.
4. How did you know s/he was the one?
Brady – Marin was studying abroad in Mexico and it was difficult on both of us. I had a long drive from Denver to Sioux Falls and prayed/thought/contemplated the entire way. By the time I got home I knew I couldn’t be without her. I emailed her the next day.
Marin- It took a little faith and trust and pixie dust (ok, no pixie dust…) I think I started knowing when we both went to a “Lost Boys from Sudan” speaker together. I knew there was potential for something deeper between us than just boyfriend/girlfriend and it kept growing.
5. How would your classmates remember you?
Brady – As someone that was nice but generally quiet.
Marin- Perhaps as a leader.
6. What lessons has your work life taught you?
Brady – I’ve been out of college for three years now and have a lot more respect for men and women that do whatever is necessary to support their family even if its not a “dream job”.
Marin- Working with middle schoolers has taught me how to do “crazy”. It’s taught me how to be humble, how to be courageous, and how to find beauty in the chaos of change.
7. Have you experienced any miracles?
Brady – I’ve never been a part of something insanely crazy like a person’s arm or leg re-growing (yet), but I have experienced a lot of “holy coincidences” in response to prayer. Way too many to list here.
Marin- I’m pretty sure it was a miracle that saved me from getting eaten by a mountain lion when I was little… and many others.
8. What kind of student were you?
Brady – A’s and B’s…unless it was foreign language or music related then C-.
Marin- The classic over-achiever.
9. Random fact about you?
Brady – I once bench pressed 425lbs.
Marin- I can pick my nose with my tongue.
10. If this was our last conversation, what words of wisdom would you want to pass on?
Brady – One day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord (whether they want to or not). He loves you. His yoke is easy and his burden is light. Choose to serve him alone.
Marin- Do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
