Good Morning! I texted this email last night to a few of my favorite ladies and wanted to share this with you all as well!
Hello Friends!
Here’s a personal update to a few of my favorite ladies! Grace and peace to you all on an awesome International Women’s Day! I believe it’s still day time over there. It’s 11:00 at night over here in Livingstone, Zambia. Month 6, almost halfway through the race, I believe we will be at the halfway point some time next week and I’ll be able to see your beautiful faces soon enough! This month I’m on an all girls team. We are called Salty Pursuit because they separated our team from last month so that our 2 co-ed teams could form one huge all male team. They calling it “Zambroia” for man-istry month. How cute is that? The names of our two co-ed teams were dynamic Pursuit and mine was Salty and Bright. So they took 2 of us from Salty and Bright and paired us up with the 3 girls from Dynamic Pursuit and we now have Salty Pursuit! Gotta make life interesting aye?
Haha well I just wanted to shoot you a short update for this month. We are having an “ATL” (Ask the Lord) ministry this month and the Holy Spirit is our host! Each day we ask the Lord where he wants to direct our path and it has been quite the experience! We are currently staying at a hostel which cut us a huge break since we are staying here for the month. And it is awesome!!! So let me tell you a quick story about today(now yesterday). I accompanied our squad leader, Erin to get some errands done, and on our way there we saw a TON of women dressed in beautiful colorful traditional African dresses, marching bands, women and men in service all lined up on the road getting ready to march in a parade celebrating today! I have never heard if this holida being celebrated as vibrantly as here!
Afterward, I had some alone time with Jesus in the lounge and started to sing this old song called “Joy and Pain” by Rob base and DJ E Z Rock when one of the cleaning staff workers of the hostel walked by me. Our team talked about building a relationship with the staff that are here since we’ll be here for a month and honestly we could be doing better. Anyway, yeah the Lord divinely planted this conversation because she loved the song and told me that she will learn the song and sing it for me! Lol she loves gospel music and a he actually invited us to come to her church this sunday! I also told the Lord that I wanted to come up with some dance moves to that song and teach the staff this song and dance while they are hanging out in the break room. They are pretty receptive to talking about Jesus and I just want to continue to leave them with nuggets of grace and wisdom from the Word of God…especially via song and dance! So that’s what’s on the agenda for tomorrow for me personally.
Lol so yes after that I had a wonderful conversation with another lady from the UK staying at our hostel who has been working with victims of sexual abuse. We talked about the needs here in Zambia and more of what her day-to-day looks like.
After that we met up with some street kids (mostly boys) that we’ve built a repitoire with over the past week to go play soccer in a field that’s behind the local hospital. Only one showed up on time ish…little did we know there were a bunch of girls that were there and they wanted to play soccer too! So we got to play soccer with a bunch of young ladies(on Women’s Day, how cool is that?) today and it was beautiful. After we played an exhausting 25 minutes of “futbol” lol, I taught them a little lesson on Psalm 139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made, your works are wonderful, I know that full well! And we learned that verse together with some sweet hand motions!
Finally our silly middle school boys show up towards the end. They joined us in learning that and singing some songs. As we were walking home the group of girls walked behind us and the boys who were also walking in our direction were with us. The girls had said something in their native tounge and our boys said something back…and ‘lo and behold they were about to fight, but we diffused the situation. So as we were calming the boys down, another adult female local was there who witnessed what happened and decided to come and talk to the boys. Community at it’s finest! I also walked walked up to her to try to explain what happened, but she did just fine. She talked to the boys in their native language and the boys looked like they felt a little conviction there. She pretty much encouraged them not to talk to the girls like that because they are children of God. Also as young men that means that they will be father’s one day are they should not talk to their daughters like that (she said that line in English)! Ugggh what are great moment of godly discipline! I really wished that a man would have said something to them though. There was one that passed by who also saw everything that went down, and didn’t say anything. I later found out that he did however say something to kayla and emily walking past them (they were walking a little ahead of me, mariah and the boys)…he pretty much tried to hollerrr at them…smh. Pray for our men all around the world!
Oh yeah before all that as were leaving the park there was a group of older women who mere meeting in a hut neat the soccer field. They saw what we were doing and told us that they enjoy what we are doing and will send more kids our way next week! We then offered to pray for them and it was good!
On our way back, we split with the boys and I ended up running back to the hostel because I had to go pee(that hasn’t changed). Then Kayla and I worked out and she complained the whole time, but she was a trooper and will thank me later lol. At the end of the day our team split some pizza, buy one get one free, 15 Kwacha each (less than 2.00 USD) split between the 6 of us and watched Moana on Erin’s laptop! We have such a remarkable heavenly Father and fun Savior! The Holy Spirit in us is and is definitely shifting the atmosphere wherever we go! GLORY TO GOD! Please continue for more opportunities and for more boldness in sharing God’s love and truth!
Be blessed.
Be encouraged.
Love and miss you all,
Mary-Bliz
