Sometimes I have to pinch myself. This is real, I am on the World Race!
Something I have dreamt of doing since I first heard about the race in 2010, God opened the door for me to leave on the first ever Fusion Squad in January 2015.
I am just approaching the end of my third month and have had the incredible opportunity to serve in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam so far but the journey is far from over. Next month I will head to China, then in May it is time to head to Africa for a continent change where we will go to Swaziland and Lesotho – which is where I am funded up until.
However there is still South Africa, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico and the USA for me to serve in, God willing.
How has God used me so far?
Thailand
In Thailand we did a variety of ministry including monk chats, slum ministry, village ministry and prayer walks.
I had the opportunity to spend two afternoons in the slums of Chiang Mai where I was able to love on the children by just playing with them. There was the one girl who clung to me the first day we were in the slums and when I returned at the end of the week she recognised me and spent the whole afternoon playing with my hair.
Cambodia
In Cambodia I was privileged to spend three weeks forming relationships with the same children. I would see them at English class, personal hygiene class, out in the village and at church.
I got to see children receiving Operation Christmas Child boxes. Over the years I have put together boxes for children and to see a child receive a box and be so grateful for what they are getting is incredible. Spending a month loving on children in a rural village in Cambodia was an incredible opportunity.
Vietnam
Here in Vietnam we had the opportunity to have a joint worship session around a bonfire with some Vietnamese believers. Just seeing everyone coming together to worship God was incredible. During our worship a couple who were walking along the beach joined in with us, whether they knew it or not that night they worshipped Jesus with us as they sung our songs. Opportunities like that are just incredible. Sometimes you plant the first seed.
God placed me here and provided an opportunity for me to really use my skills to bless the organisation we are with this month. I have been rewriting their website content so they can launch a new website and hopefully bring in new students to their school.
What is God teaching me?
The race has already been such an incredible opportunity for spiritual growth and discipleship for me. I am growing closer to God as I learn to trust and lean on him. I am learning to listen to his voice; he speaks and I hear him. He reaffirms my position on the squad time and time again with people I encounter and ways in which I can bless the squad and our ministry contacts.
Our God is such a faithful God who wants to have a relationship with us, wants to have a relationship with me despite my failures.
In order to spend the full 11 months out on the field spreading God’s love and continue on this incredible journey he is taking me on I need to be fully funded by 1st July 2015, which means I need an additional $4,000 in my account.
I believe that God is faithful and if he wants me to continue on the World Race he will provide.
