                                                                      C

                                                                      H

No matter how it is written, this name, it doesn't truly do it justice. Yes, it is just a name but the significance is the person in which it identifies. So…I will begin by telling you who this man is to me and why the word generous is a mere understatement for the impact he has had on my time here.

The question "Who is helping at the pub down the street?" is questioned by a man that has been generous with our squad since our arrival here in Coleraine. As my hand begins to raise half way up, a hesitance overcomes me at how he will respond; in those few seconds I prepare myself for criticism. Within a few ticks of the clock, a smile stretches from ear to ear as sparkles glisten in his eyes; in that moment, I know that no such criticism will come.

Many people who have met this man or have heard of him or know him, would easily say that he is generous. I myself cannot disagree, however, the way in which I see his generosity is very different. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for the BBQs and pizza and chocolate that he has abundantly provided our entire squad with. I am thankful for him welcoming us into his home just to use wifi since the entire town closes down at 5pm. I am thankful for the physical generosity that I have seen and experienced but I am more grateful for the generosity in something that can't be bought with money.

I am grateful for his generosity in:

 encouragement

support

believing in me

cheering me on

being proud of me

taking time out of his day to ask for updates

I know undoubtedly that God put Hutch in my life for a reason and the reason to me, is more than clear. Yes, he is generous but it doesn't stop there. You see, his generosity encourages others to do the same. He sets an example, he is a leader, and although he has asked me "Do you know what my position in the church is?" with the understanding that he holds no title at all, his position is much greater than any title could claim. In watching the gifts that he gives, the life he speaks into each person, and the willingness he has to serve; I have learned that when you give it all, you are even more blessed. He is and was a light for me here in Coleraine and I know that he will continue to touch many more lives through his obedience and willingness to give graciously. These are things that money can't buy. These are things that cannot be bought. These are things that I will truly remember. Hutch is a generous person and I can only hope that someday I can be as generous as him.
