T-shirts make up 99% of my wardrobe.  My favorite being the previously mentioned yellow shirt that screams of my West Virginia pride.  Still, I find myself wearing it less and less these days. I’ve traded it in for my blue Walmart smock in which my back says, “How May I Help You?”
It’s not exactly what I expected after all that money was shelled out for college.  To be honest it was a blow to my pride.  So, praise the Lord for it!  I can’t imagine what else could have humbled me so much.  As I check out customers in the middle of the night, stand at the door to greet those two customers while the constant beeps and bangs of the video game keeps me company, and as I stock endless shelves of paper towles, I’m reminded of being a servant.
It’s not just stepping up and taking on the jobs nobody else wants to do.  Attitude is a big part of being a servant.  Working at your highest level is part of being a servant.  Neither of which is encouraged by all your co-workers.  It’s tough definetly…but it’s also rewarding.  As I prepare for the trip, I pray that I will carry the lesson of true servanthood with me.  I pray I can be a servant to my team, our ministry partners, the people of the world, and of course the Lord.  When it comes time to do that job everyone purposefully overlooks (C’mon people, we’ve all done it unfortunately), I want to do it with a smile and with every once of smarts and strength I have.  It can only get more difficult I’m sure.

Lord help me to serve at Walmart with a cheerful heart.  I pray that the trials there will prepare me in many ways to be a better servant throughout my life.  Teach me lasting lessons and continue to humble me.  Thank you for your instruction and courage to press on. May you shine through me always. Amen.
