Month End Wrap Up: Guatemala- Month 1
1. Where were you again?
This month we were in Guatemala
2. What was the name of the ministry?
Casa De Sion in Los Robles
3. What did you learn?
Paul’s farts are silent but deadly.
Not all travel bottles are created equally, especially when they spill their entire contents of soap all over all of your belongings.
People don’t really notice when you wear the same white shirt for 5 days (for all they now you have several white shirts)
4. No really, what did you learn?
I learned a lot about Resting in God. I am a natural do-er. Non-stop go go go. It was quite nice to just be here. No distractions. Just be here with my bible and journal staring at me each night screaming “Spend time with me!”
5. How was the food? Best meal?
Amazing!! So much natural, healthy, good food. And you all thought I was going to be eating creepy crawlies and weird things. Honestly, I was privileged to eat very similar to how I eat at home (almost pretty much vegan). Favorite meal was millet burritos, veggie and tempeh sandwich, and banana pancakes.
6. What do you miss from home?
I miss Trader Joe’s. I miss power berries. I am missing pumpkin everything right now too.
7. What do you not miss from home?
The busyness of the mundane.
7. What would you like to say to the people (stalkers) back home?
Dear friends, be jealous. Be very very jealous.
No but really, keep me updated on life. Just because I am not in the states doesn’t mean we can’t stay connected through Facebook, E-mail, Skype, texting (yes, I finally have texting again). I know you all want to know how I am but I genuinely care about how you are doing too! E-mails work best (:
8. What was the hardest part?
To be honest it is kind of hard to say. I really had a blessed first month. I guess it was hard to deal with a lot of the rain storms we got because I didn’t pack a lot of warm clothes.
9. What was your favorite memory?
Trail running down this steep hill with Irwin and Ben after going to the town to get pan de baños.
Walking to this random persons house to ask for corn tortillas and then making some with her.
Zip-lining through the jungle with the team!
Candlelight night (to read the blog about that stay tuned).
10. Most dangerous thing you did?
Nothing Mom. Riding in the back of trucks was completely safe. Zip lining was completely safe. Walking around town at night was completely safe, especially when the Mayan community burns people for committing crimes.
11. Any “Firsts” this month?
I am not a coffee drinker but I had the best coffee here in Guatemala. It was so good! Now I’m not saying I turned into a coffee drinker now but it was sure good to try it. I also went to bed before 10:00 pm for an entire week. Crazy, not something I would do at home.
12. What are you looking for God to do next month.
Next month we are headed to Honduras. Our whole squad will be together using out tents. I really think that God is going to teach us a lot about patiences and living in true community with each other.
