“Who am I, Lord, to be anything to you, to do anything for your glorious kingdom?”
As I do my best to obey the Lord’s commands for my life, albeit failing here and there, I often hear nagging words come to the forefront of my mind; words that question my inherent value and worth as a person. Lies. Then, I see a thought process developing in my mind saying, “Well, I am just one random average dude, with average abilities, with an average distribution of fat and muscle percentage…” I think many of us can relate, even Moses was in this position of questioning himself when God appeared to him in flames of fire within a bush:
Exodus 3:11-12 NIV
11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” 12 And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.”
Moses said, “Who am I”, and God responded to him by saying, “I will be with you”. As I was meditating on this scripture, God was fortifying my applied understanding of who I am in the Lord. Our worth doesn’t come from ourselves and is not dependent on our relation to the world. No. Our worth comes from our relation to Yahweh! Who we are to Him, how we are seen by Him, who we are in Him, how He works through us…It’s quite simple, but at the same time, there is a profound depth of understanding that, at least I personally, admittedly sometimes dismiss or forget about. When true revelation comes about this primordial question of worth and identity, it is mind-blowing and character changing.
You are created in His image (Genesis 1:27), you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), you are greatly loved (John 3:16). You can be redeemed through the blood of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:7), become one with Him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17), and live a fulfilling life with Him in obedience (Matthew 5:6) which gives our lives here on earth worthy purpose (John 14:23) (1 Corinthians 15:58)!
Just a reminder that no matter the situation, being burned in the furnace or not, there is stability, security, and honor because of the mighty foundation that is Jesus Christ. As believers, we are living stones on earth founded upon the living Stone. Jesus is the living Stone! The chief cornerstone!
1 Peter 2:4-6 NKJV
4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture,
“Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”
