Some thoughts on street evangelism.
Crazy how church has corrupted the word evangelism… it puts some weird, freak fear in us.. . It sets up some sort of expectation or outcome. However, I am learning to “evangelize” by Jesus example! I mean, come on! Jesus just hung out with people! He did not fabricate it into some crazy intense ….overworked or forced…thing! He just did it! He hung out with people, he loved on people… and that is exactly what we are doing. Did you know just taking one second to see someone could change their day? I am not talking about looking… I am talking about seeing. I think in American culture, we have caved so much into ourselves that we only have tunnel vision of where WE are going and what WE are doing. We do not see people as humans but rather, poles and shadows moving to and from. I think when we take time to actually see a person….it is more than just a glimpse or a quick look. It can really change their day. People desire to be noticed. People need to know that they are important and that they have value. People need to be seen.
[[Side note: our team name is “Night Vision” which is from Psalm 139: 11-12…We want to have eyes that see into the darkness. Eyes that see the raging spiritual warfare. Eyes that see the things going on all around us; a developed sense of observation. We want eyes that can see things that other people don’t see. We want eyes that see things people do not care to see. We want eyes from the Lord and opened eyes of our heart. We are night vision. Just………a side note. Smiles…]] So! Street “Hanging out” is another ministry that we do! It has been so good too! The enemy hates that we are shining light on areas that he has kept in chains and darkness for so long. You can feel the spiritual atmosphere changing when we suit up with the full armor of God.. It is crazy good! A common thread that I see here in El Salvador and Belize is the drug addiction. So many people want change and desire a new life, but are so twisted up in their chains… But, we have the power and authority in Jesus name to break all that! We are bringing freedom!
