I am a dreamer.
This is a good thing because we live in
a world of dreamers.
God was and is a dreamer.
I often ignore my dreams.
Society puts dreams on a back burner,
because they aren’t practical.
God followed his dream and the world
was created.
As children, we speak so freely of our
dreams; and we really believe they are going to happen. Adults who
have “worldly experience” and “practicality” laugh at us. As
we grow up we are taught that dreams won’t put food on the table,
that we must follow important steps to be “successful”.
Education, Career/Money, Spouse,
Family, then teach this important process to your children. This is
what happiness is…….right? Well, it’s what we think it is; but as
most know you never have enough and you are always searching for
more. We continue to live this way until we have a breakdown. All
those dreams we once had, come flooding in and we feel helpless.
Now
we are empty, depressed, and full of yearning.
What if those dreams as a child weren’t
from us, but were a sweet whisper from God?
What if those dreams start for your own
fulfillment; but then they turn into hope for others?
I know so many people who are on what
they would call a “self exploration”, trying to find who they
are. They decide they need to meditate more, do yoga everyday, read a
certain amount of self-help books, give up eating meat, etc. etc.
This is what will help them determine who they are…. it will fill
the holes that need filled. People are miserable….. they are
grouchy.
What if we are living a robotic life,
stuck in a rut, and bored to death. We often whimsically think of the
dreams we once had; but guilt reminds us that they aren’t the
responsible thing to do.
Most of us like to please people. We are more apt to please the people around us than to please God.
Is a flesh form more intimidating, more gratifying? Do we feel more of a need to be accepted by our peers; then to be rejected by man and glorified by God?
“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world, rather than on Christ.” Colossians 2:8
You are a dreamer.
God was a dreamer.
This society doesn’t encourage dreams.
Worldly success rarely leads to happiness; but doing what you’ve always dreamed of gives you a freeing peace. God fulfills our desires through our dreams and fills the emptiness with his love.
You do not dream in vain. Those dreams you’ve had that won’t get out of your mind, that distract you on long car rides, that dance in the back of your head, that prevent you from falling asleep at night; they are the key to finding yourself.
Take a chance and let go of your inhibitions. Inhibitions you were trained to have. What are you so worried about?
This is a letter to me, as much as it is to anyone.
