To my fellow squad members, the sermon at church today was about the story in the Gospel of Luke, about Two sisters, Mary and Martha. The first part of the scripture was this:

“38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feetlistening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”.

Martha had an expectation about what Gods love should look like. She was so focused on doing stuff for Him, she assumed that she deserved something in return. But Jesus responded:

“41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.””

I have been so held up on fundraising and preparing for this journey, that I have forgotten what the whole purpose of it to begin with. I feel like sometimes we catch ourselves being relatable to Martha, when God wants us to be like Mary. We should sit at His feet and learn His ways. The journey ahead is a long one, but God has it all in His hands. Stop worrying. Stop stressing. Focus on what really matters.
