Dear Lord,
It’s the end of month four and yet again I see something else you are working out in me. Lord I know you already know what I’m going to say, but I need to process these feelings with someone and I don’t think there is a better person than you. I want to paint out this picture before you and even myself so maybe I can understand things better.
Once there was a beautiful girl that everyone loved and always wanted to be around. To her and her friends she lived the fairytale life, where everything was great. She had perfect parents, she had everything she needed and mostly everything she wanted, she went to the perfect school and everything seemed to be absolutely great. When she talked to people she would recite how great God is in front of people but when she wasn’t around a crowd of people she would use profanity almost every other word. Sometimes when people made here mad she’d completely go off on them without thinking twice about their feelings. Yet to her that was okay. She walked around with her head held high because she thought she was this perfect Christian. No one else knows her sins, and if they did who were they to judge; she would think to herself “they probably have bigger sins in their life than having a bad attitude and a bad mouth.”
Funny Enough Lord that girl use to be me. I was that arrogant, bad attitude and bad mouth girl. No one could tell me anything because I thought I was perfect in some weird way. Lord in James 3, you tell us that our tongue is something that we are ever taming, for if anyone does not stumble in what he says he is a perfect man, able also to guide his whole body. For with our tongue we bless our Lord and father and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.
Sadly enough it took you putting me in a place in my life where you not only are teaching me patience, but you have made me step back and recognize people and things around me. Now I see the people that have bad mouths and attitudes around me and I weep for them because they just don’t understand. They feel like just because we have freedom in you that they can act any way they want to. How can we tell the world that Jesus has saved us and made a change in our lives when we continue to do the things of the world? To me as a child of God and as a Christian, we are held doubly accountable for things we do and say because people look at us and expect us to be different. And honestly we should be. So Father thank you for showing me where I’ve grown, but Lord I pray that you grant me the wisdom and the understand to show people that we as Christians must be different in order to make a difference in this dying world.
