Aloha everyone! I’ve dedicated this blog to update everyone on fundraising. There are lots of ideas and upcoming events. I cannot thank my friends and church enough for their full support and creative minds. First of all, I mentioned in my second blog that I didn’t have a job. After I got accepted into the World Race, I prayed that God would open an opportunity for this Spring 2014 semester. I was pretty specific in my prayer. I asked God to provide a job in my field so that I could get internship hours and at the same time get paid (since some internships have no pay). By the way, I’m a Travel Industry Management major with an emphasis in Hospitality. Two days after I made my request, a member in my church approached me about a job opening at the Hyatt Regency’s Spa department. Long story short – I applied and got it! Over the past 2 months, I have been working as the new Spa Attendant and I’m enjoying it thus far 🙂
Along with saving some of my own money, my friends and I have come up with awesome ways to fundraise and get the community involved. Currently, we are having a Big Island Candies crunch bar sale and hopefully soon, we’ll have Krispy Kreme doughnuts as well. I also plan on having t-shirt sales (I’m super excited about the design. Will update on that soon!). A few of my musical friends and siblings have also come up with the idea of jamming on the streets of Waikiki, which is pretty cool! I am open to any more ideas if you have them.
Here are some of the bigger events that I’ve had or will be having for each month:
1. February 08: Annual Women’s Meeting at Olivet Baptist Church – our job was to make fancy coffee. This event was quite successful and I’m very grateful for the people I’ve met who have showed much interest and support in my journey.
2. March 02: Car Wash – we’ll be holding a car wash at the 76 gas station on South King St. Honolulu (come by if you’re on the island!)
3. April: Contributor’s Dinner – I’ll go in depth about the countries I’ll be going, my goals for the year, and a brief testimony. I’m also hoping to have entertainment and of course, food!!!
4. May: Art & Flea – this is a market of vendors selling vintage, collectible items or even handmade crafts and jewelry.
I am not required to raise everything before my launch date. However, I do have deadlines of the amount I should have by the following dates:
Deadline #1: June 27th, 2014 – $3,500
Deadline #2: August 22, 2014 – $7,500
Deadline #3: December 01, 2014 – $11,000
Deadline #4: March 01, 2015 – $16,264 (fully funded)
Please continue to pray for me as I witness how God will provide financially. Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” My goal is not to just raise money but I hope that through this God will use me to encourage others to also take a step out of their comfort zone and go as He calls them to. Thank you all for everything! I’m stoked to see a miracle take place!
