For the last fews days, Seth and I have been unable to do ministry with our team. I developed a kidney infection, which I went to the doctor for. Trying to convey kidney infection with pantomime is interesting. They got the message, though, and asked for a urine sample. I know this, because they said “pee pee”, pointed at me, and gave me an empty baby food jar. Oh America, I miss your sterile-ness. They tested it, then told me I had an “infectionne muy grande.” Fun. I got some antibiotics and went home.
Later that nigh, around midnight, it became so painful that I started crying. I had already taken a regular pain pill and a vicodin, and it still was horrible. So we (me, Seth, and 3 other racers) went to the emergency room. And in the Dominican, just because it’s a hospital, that doesn’t mean there are doctors there! So that was interesting. They said that yes, it was an emergency (I won’t go into the gory details), but all they could do was give me an injection for the pain and send me home until 8 am the next day, when there would be a doctor. So we did that.

We went back, to a different clinic, the next morning, and got a sonogram of my kidneys. The final verdict is that I have a kidney stone, which has been lacerating my kidney. Which is why I’ve been getting a lot of infections over the past few months. The doctor says I need to pass it, which could take 2 days or 2 months, according to him. According to WebMD, most are passed in 10 days ish. Please pray for it to be gone quickly, so I am not ill in Haiti!
I wish I had pictures of the hospital/clinic, but my mind was elsewhere. So that’s my first medical adventure overseas.
