objective was to bring love into the girl’s home. We always hope
to leave a place better than we found it, and in Malaysia we were
able to do that in a tangible way.
in the budget and wanted to do something special with it for the
girls. The house they live in is in grim disrepair – it’s very
old; there are holes in the walls and the floor is falling apart, but
it also just looked really shabby. So we decided to do an “Extreme
Makeover Home Edition – Malaysia on a Budget”! We took 2 weeks
to plan all of the projects that we would do and arranged to take the
girls on a special outing so that we could make the whole thing a
surprise.
On a Friday, we started
work just after the girls left for school and we worked for 13 hours
straight until they come back that night around 9pm. That morning we
prayed that God would multiply our resources and our creativity. The
following is an account of all that we (the 8 ladies of TKP) did:
-
Painted 3 bedrooms, 2
bathrooms, and 1 living/dining room -
Painted 4 doors and
the stair railing -
Rearranged all the
furniture in the house and organized all their school supplies and
personal cubbies -
Thoroughly cleaned
and bleached 2 bathrooms -
Painted murals and
bible verses on the walls -
Hung new bathroom
mirrors -
Laid new bath mats
-
Repaired the parquet
floor by gluing each individual piece -
Created a “Family”
collage on the living room wall with all of their pictures in frame
prayers were answered big time – we had more than enough supplies,
Kearston and Erica created some incredible artwork AND our time was
multiplied so were able to get so much more done than we had
anticipated!
girls spent the afternoon at the mall – they saw a movie, went to
an arcade and had dinner at McDonalds. Some of them had never been
to the mall before so it was definitely a special day. When they
came home, we had everything set up and waiting – we showed them
the bedrooms one at a time and their reactions were priceless! There
was so much newfound joy and excitement among them – they had never
had people do something like that for them before. After showing
Angeline (16 years old), her room, she couldn’t stop crying because
she was so happy.
