I’m having a hard time comprehending this. Today, along with Jason and a team, I’m leaving my known world for 11 months. It seems monumental. In some ways, it feels as if I’m jumping out of a plane: ready to get in position, enjoy the ride, counting on a chute to open, but unsure of how or where I’m landing.

What am I doing? And, why???

I’m ready to expand my world. Yes, I’ve traveled extensively already, but this is a whole new level of crazy. I’m most excited about:

  • partnering with 11 different local missions and learning from them
  • working with medical clinics/hospitals in foreign countries (starting in Guatemala!)
  • observing and joining into so many cultures
  • making new friends and connections
  • catching up with old friends in Antigua, Guatemala (fingers crossed)
  • seeing what God is doing in the world

My goal with all of this? To live with a wildly greater global perspective. Yeah, I don’t know. I might either land at home or abroad after the next 11 months. But regardless, I want to stay connected to people all over the world in order to better pray, support, and be actively involved internationally in the future.

But most of all, to attempt to maintain a big picture view on life. To keep in focus the things that really matter.

I can’t believe it. But this huge venture is about to begin! And for me this means parting with comforts, independence, and my known universe.  Today we travel to Guatemala, where we’ll spend about 1 month with the entire “K Squad” (55 people) at Agape in Action http://www.agapeinaction.org/AIA/Home.html. From there, we’ll split into our teams (6-7 people) and travel to Nicaragua, Asia, southern Africa, and Eastern Europe.

We’ll do our best to keep you up to date. For now, farewell!
